A trip to the Caribbean is the perfect remedy for the long winter blues. The sugary, quartz-white beaches and gently swaying palm trees is the ideal backdrop for hours of relaxation and rejuvenation. The Caribbean provides a sanctuary in which to retreat from long hours at the office and life’s unyielding demands. As the Jamaicans say, the Caribbean is irie.

Whether you book a cruise or retreat to an all-inclusive island resort, a trip to the Caribbean is sure to include long hours of soaking up the sun, imbibing in rum and pina coladas and enjoying a variety of water activities. The most difficult thing about planning a trip is deciding what island to go to. The Caribbean island chain is like a necklace of jewels, and each island is beautiful and slightly different from the next. This is why so many people opt to take a cruise through the Caribbean. A cruise will island hop through the tranquil waters, stopping at several ports along the way. This type of vacation will give you a taste of what each island has to offer, but it is not the ideal way to visit the Caribbean. It is better to pick one destination, grab your suntan lotion and paperback and head to the beach. When you go to the Caribbean, the idea is to relax, not to race around on 2-hour excursions in every port from Puerto Rico to Barbados. Island life is calm and stress-free, and your trip to the islands should mirror that philosophy.

The beaches, hidden coves and scenic inlets are the main highlights of the Caribbean. The sand is soft and flecked with hints of pink. The sea is a calm and tranquil. The shades of aquamarine, turquoise and cerulean are unearthly. It is the ideal setting for water activities. Snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing and deep-sea fishing are some of the activities you will experience in the Caribbean. Many resorts also offer different types of excursions around the island. For example, if you are staying in Jamaica, then there is usually a hotel shuttle that will bring you into Montego Bay for a day of shopping. On the island of St. Lucia, you can arrange a daytrip to hike the pitons. These two inactive volcanoes are the highlight of this island in the West Indies. In other words, if the beach is not enough for you, then there are other recreational options. A sunset cruise is also a popular excursion. It is a great chance to meet new people and see the island from the water.

The weather is always hot in the Caribbean. However, there is a continuous trade wind blowing. It keeps the temperature comfortable. Whether you visit Aruba, the Virgin Islands or the Turks and Caicos, expect the days to be relaxing and for time to move by slowly. Sit back with a tall rum punch and watch the snset. This is the good life. Dig your feet in the sand and forget about winter.
