If you’re planning a trip to Copenhagen, the Danish capital, you should be careful to avoid the common traps for unwary tourists. Copenhagen is a wonderful and unique city, and it’s not worth ruining your vacation for not knowing what to keep out of. Here are some things you should avoid while in this city:

Avoid the amusement park Tivoli like the plague in major holidays

Tivoli is Denmark’s largest tourist attraction, with more than 4 million visitors a year. Who hasn’t heard of the amusement park here or Tivoli Gardens!? You can have a lot of fun here but the prices are high for everything, from food and drink to rides. If you decide to visit Tivoli anyway, try to avoid seeing it on major holidays like Christmas or Halloween, as the line will be really long and it’s not worth the wait. Better try it during summer!

Well, I don’t know what age you are or what kind of things you like, so I’m going to list them by category to help you decide. Look each thing up and see what you fancy!

For shopping:
Camden Market
Covent Garden
Borough Market (food and drink – lots to taste!) – walk over London Bridge while you’re there.
Oxford Street and Regent Street – make sure you see Piccadilly Circus and the Eros statue too. The famous Christmas lights may be on if you go late November.
Harrods – really posh department store – and Hamleys – awesome toy shop!
Leicester Square – this is also where London’s biggest cinema is, where they have all the premieres. There are also kiosks here that sell cheap last-minute theatre tickets, loads of eating places, and Chinatown is just round the corner.
Don’t forget to stop off in a traditional pub or two for lunch and a drink!

For culture:
National Gallery
Tate Gallery
West End – see a show or two! Go here to find out what’s on: http://www.londontheatre.co.uk/

For English heritage/history:
Trafalgar Square
Buckingham Palace
The Tower of London
St Paul’s Cathedral
Walk past Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, and go on the London Eye of course (world’s biggest ferris wheel) for awesome views over the city (book in advance! http://www.londoneye.com/ )
If heritage is your thing you could also see the Monument to the Great Fire of London, Marble Arch, Tower Bridge, 10 Downing Street, Mansion House, St James’ Palace, Westminster Abbey – the list goes on and on!

Other attractions:
London Zoo
Madame Tussauds (world famous waxworks museum)
The planetarium at Greenwich
Hyde Park
The Cutty Sark (if it’s open again by then – it should be) (19th century clipper ship docked in Greenwich)
The London Dungeon http://www.the-dungeons.co.uk/london/en/index.htm
The British Museum (not about Britain – about all kinds of stuff!) or the Natural History Museum (both awesome).

There’s certainly a lot you could do! A lot of this is really quite close together, so if you plan it well you could fit loads in. Hope you have a great time!

Log Cabin Holidays are a Great Way to Spend a Winter Weekend

log cabin holidays

Are you looking for some winter holiday ideas for this upcoming season?  The air may be cold and there may be snow on the ground, but winter is a great time for a getaway.  Hotels are always an option or even a ski resort but if you are looking for something a little more private and practical, log cabins are ideal for wet weather holidays!  Besides being private, winter log cabins are cosy, warm and pet friendly too.  Just imagine being in the middle of nowhere, in the woods or high up in the mountains somewhere with just you, your loved ones, a roaring fire and spectacular scenery all around you!  Sounds great doesn’t it.  You will not have to worry about noisy neighbors, that’s for sure!

Log cabins are available to rent virtually everywhere in the world.  With a little research, you will find some great ones located right in your hometown!  There are also packaged log cabin holidays that you can purchase that include various items like your transportation if you are going somewhere away from home, your log cabin stay and any entertainment you would like to take in while you are there.  If you plan to rent one of these cabins this winter, be assured that there will not be a shortage of things to do including cross-country skiing, wildlife viewing, snowmobiling and ice skating.  If you wish to partake in some or all of these winter activities, just make sure to search for accommodations that have these things nearby.

These cabins are also available to rent in the summer months too if winter is not your thing.  Summer is a great time for a log cabin vacation because staying in a log cabin is the next best thing to camping because they tend to be more rugged and closer to nature than hotels or resorts!
