I want to take a vacation to Abu Dhabi but I don’t know how much to save up before I go. I am from the East coast in USA so I would have to fly there. I want to stay in a nice hotel possibly on the beach. How much should I save up? Can someone that’s been there give me some tips and places to visit. Thanks ! 🙂

It is very expensive. Plane tickets alone are over $1000. When I went, I was visiting a friend, and was able to stay with her. Go online to do a little research to get a better idea. Incidentally, if you are not married and hoping to go with your significant other, you will need 2 separate rooms, as they require copies of marriage licenses to stay in the same room together. This applies to tourists as well as natives. Also, as a female, there may be issues with renting cars, as male family members (husband, father, etc) have to give women permission to drive. Do some research on muslim beliefs and/or customs, as that will help you. I had a blast while there. I would highly recommend going on a camel safari. They have some that are only for a few hours (mine was at sunset and well worth the expense) and others that involve camping over night. (We drove for about 1 hour to get there, but worth it!) Mall of the Emirates (Dubai)is also neat – they have the indoor ski slope. Although you might check in Abu Dhabi, as they were planning to build one there as well. Dubai is also where the man made Palm and Globe shaped islands are, along with the hotel in the shape of a sail. Also, pay attention to the seasons there, as they are different from ours. I went around Thanksgiving and Christmas and that was a good time to go, as the temperatures were livable. The airport in Abu Dhabi is quite the site to see as well – neat tile work! Have fun!

If you’re planning a trip to Copenhagen, the Danish capital, you should be careful to avoid the common traps for unwary tourists. Copenhagen is a wonderful and unique city, and it’s not worth ruining your vacation for not knowing what to keep out of. Here are some things you should avoid while in this city:

Avoid the amusement park Tivoli like the plague in major holidays

Tivoli is Denmark’s largest tourist attraction, with more than 4 million visitors a year. Who hasn’t heard of the amusement park here or Tivoli Gardens!? You can have a lot of fun here but the prices are high for everything, from food and drink to rides. If you decide to visit Tivoli anyway, try to avoid seeing it on major holidays like Christmas or Halloween, as the line will be really long and it’s not worth the wait. Better try it during summer!

Well, I don’t know what age you are or what kind of things you like, so I’m going to list them by category to help you decide. Look each thing up and see what you fancy!

For shopping:
Camden Market
Covent Garden
Borough Market (food and drink – lots to taste!) – walk over London Bridge while you’re there.
Oxford Street and Regent Street – make sure you see Piccadilly Circus and the Eros statue too. The famous Christmas lights may be on if you go late November.
Harrods – really posh department store – and Hamleys – awesome toy shop!
Leicester Square – this is also where London’s biggest cinema is, where they have all the premieres. There are also kiosks here that sell cheap last-minute theatre tickets, loads of eating places, and Chinatown is just round the corner.
Don’t forget to stop off in a traditional pub or two for lunch and a drink!

For culture:
National Gallery
Tate Gallery
West End – see a show or two! Go here to find out what’s on: http://www.londontheatre.co.uk/

For English heritage/history:
Trafalgar Square
Buckingham Palace
The Tower of London
St Paul’s Cathedral
Walk past Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, and go on the London Eye of course (world’s biggest ferris wheel) for awesome views over the city (book in advance! http://www.londoneye.com/ )
If heritage is your thing you could also see the Monument to the Great Fire of London, Marble Arch, Tower Bridge, 10 Downing Street, Mansion House, St James’ Palace, Westminster Abbey – the list goes on and on!

Other attractions:
London Zoo
Madame Tussauds (world famous waxworks museum)
The planetarium at Greenwich
Hyde Park
The Cutty Sark (if it’s open again by then – it should be) (19th century clipper ship docked in Greenwich)
The London Dungeon http://www.the-dungeons.co.uk/london/en/index.htm
The British Museum (not about Britain – about all kinds of stuff!) or the Natural History Museum (both awesome).

There’s certainly a lot you could do! A lot of this is really quite close together, so if you plan it well you could fit loads in. Hope you have a great time!
